I’ve been trying to keep my crazy sweet tooth in check. So, this weekend instead of reaching for something chocolaty, caramely and delicious, I decided to make a smoothie. Yeah, not quite the same thing as a big slice of chocolate cake but the strawberry-orange combo is fresh, citrusy and naturally sweet.
I used blood oranges since they’re in season (only for a few more weeks!) and have such a pretty, bright color. But, feel free to swap in another type of orange in the off-season.
Kefir is kind of like a drinkable yogurt, it’s a slightly thickened, fermented milk that has a bit of tartness to it. I love to use it in oatmeal or cold cereal but it’s really good in popsicles or smoothies. I prefer plain or unflavored kefir since it’s a blank slate that you can pair with sweet or savory. But, you can also replace it with almond milk for a dairy free breakfast smoothie or sweet tooth buster.
