Last Friday afternoon we hopped in the car for a mini road trip to Northern Minnesota for a weekend full of scuba diving. Granted, lake diving in the Midwest doesn’t quite have the glamour and appeal of the Bahamas, but once you throw on a wet suit it’s really not that bad!
We headed North to the Iron Range area in Gilbert, Minnesota for Scuba-Palooza. The dive site is called Lake Ore-Be-Gone; it’s an old open-pit iron ore mine that flooded many years ago when they hit the water table and had to stop mining. Now, it’s an artificial lake for fishing, swimming and diving. Divers, being the weirdos that they are, sunk a bunch of vehicles, helicopters, small planes and other stuff around the lake to explore. It’s slightly eery, but a pretty cool place to check out.
We also did a bit of cliff jumping to round out the weekend! Here’s a video from last year…
Thanks to Ryan for all the underwater photos!
