If you follow me on Instagram (if you don’t, you totally should!) you saw a sneak peek of this deliciousness a few weeks ago while I was playing around with the recipe. Well, now you can say hello to your new favorite breakfast! …or snack, or anytime-you-want-’em biscuits.
This breakfast mashup combines the crunchy, salty, garlicky mix from the top of an everything bagel with a light, tender homemade biscuit. But, it doesn’t stop there, cream cheese pockets are tucked between the flaky layers as a tasty bonus in every single bite. Yep, it’s amazing!
For super tender biscuits, I added a bit of cornstarch to lower the protein of the flour and froze the biscuits before baking them. It takes a bit more time, but you’ll end up with a really tender, richly flavored biscuit. Totally worth it!
The cream cheese is frozen in tiny pieces so it stays in chunks in the dough and melts only just a bit in the oven to create a pocket instead of blending into the dough. Be sure to use the brick of cream cheese as the texture is thicker than the spreadable tub.
Enjoy the biscuits warm from the oven, alongside eggs for breakfast or with a bowl of soup for lunch.
Any leftover everything bagel seasoning can be used on pretty much everything. It’s especially tasty on avocado toast, roasted veggies or chicken.
Cream Cheese Stuffed Everything Bagel Biscuits
Crunchy, salty and studded with pockets of cream cheese, these everything bagel biscuits are an impressive and delicious brunch addition.
- Prep Time: 20 mins
- Cook Time: 25 mins
- Total Time: 45 minutes
- Yield: 9 Biscuits 1x
Ingredients
- Everything Bagel Seasoning
- 1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon coarse Kosher salt
- Cream Cheese Biscuits
- 1/2 block plain cream cheese (4 ounces), very cold or slightly frozen
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 to 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
- In a small bowl, stir together Everything Bagel Seasoning ingredients, set aside.
- Cut the cream cheese into tiny chunks, about 1/4-inch pieces. It’s a little messy but a lightly greased knife and slightly wet hands will help. Freeze the cream cheese for about an hour or until frozen solid.
- Whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Break apart the frozen cream cheese pieces and add with the heavy cream to the flour mixture.
- Gently turn the dough once or twice to blend the cream cheese into the dough and very gently pat into a 7-inch square about 3/4″ thick.
- Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 3 rows by 3 rows to get 9 square biscuits, place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Brush the biscuits with beaten egg and sprinkle with seasoning blend. Store remaining seasoning in an airtight container for up to 2 months.
- Heat the oven to 425°F. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for 30 minutes, to improve the texture of the biscuits. Bake 20 to 25 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from the oven; serve immediately.
